Reception:

October 2018

We have been learning about people who help us. Here the children are role playing being doctors.

October 2018

We have been doing lots of practical maths games to encourage the children to count and solve maths problems.

November 2018

We have been learning about why we celebrate fireworks night.

We learnt the story of Guy Fawkes and acted it out in groups.

November 2018

This week we have been learning about 3D shapes.

The children have made models of 3D shapes using clixi and have also found 3D shapes in the classroom.

January 2019

We read the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.

We wanted to grow our own beans. First we grew cress seeds to find out what environment is best to grow plants. We found out that plants need both light and water to grow healthy.

We then grew our beans by the window and gave them water.

After they had gown we looked at them and identified some of the parts of a plant - roots, stem, leaves. We also saw that the seed grew with the plant and then fell off where the beans began to grow.

We read the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’

We designed our own gingerbread men using coloured icing and decorations.

In English, we then described our gingerbread men.

January 2019

In maths, we have been learning about measuring.

This week we learnt about capacity.

At the end of the week we made potions using different coloured water. We followed a recipe to make our potions, measuring in cups.

February 2019

In maths, we have been learning about measuring.

This week we learnt about measuring length.

We made play dough caterpillars and measured them using cubes.

February 2019

We read the story of ‘Goldilocks’

We tasted different porridges (plain, with salt, with sugar).

We then voted on which one was our favourite. We used this to find out which was the most popular.

We then discussed which one would be the most healthy and why.
